2012 DEBRA International conference – in TORONTO

September 13-16, 2012 – start making plans now!

CN TowerDEBRA Canada is proud to announce that the DEBRA International 2012 Congress will be held in the cosmopolitan city of Toronto, Ontario.  Toronto is home of the country’s primary multidisciplinary EB clinic. DEBRA Canada President, Gena Brumitt, will co-chair the conference with Dr. Elena Pope, Head of Pediatric Dermatology at the Hospital for Sick Children.  An advisory panel is presently being assembled.

The conference dates are set for September 13-16, 2012. A patient care conference will take place on the 13th, and EB families are welcome to register for the entire conference or just attend the one-day patient care portion. All conference attendees will receive a free ticket to the Royal Ontario Museum, and the conference will open with a Canadian First Nations smudging ceremony.

Citizenship & Immigration Canada has been notified of our international event. Please see this website for information about visiting Canada: www.cic.gc.ca/english/resources/publications/meeting.asp.  Check the list of countries to see if your visit requires a Temporary Resident Visa. If you need a letter of invitation to support your TRV, please email ehoyos@debracanada.org with your contact information, and DEBRA Canada’s administrative assistant, Erin, will send one promptly. Further details about the venue, agenda, hotel information, and official registration will be available soon, through a new website created specifically for the congress.

We welcome you all!

Vancouver Halloween Party 2011

“It was a raging success! I was so pleased, all of the families that RSVPd came, so four plus mine. Dr. Prendiville, another derm and a hemotologist who works with the 3 RDEB kids, plus the nurse who helped me all came out as well. The clown was fabulous and everyone enjoyed connecting – some for the first time.”

EB Families Visit the ROM Free of Charge

Thanks to the generosity of the Gopalani family, a fund has been set up at the Royal Ontario Museum (ROM), which gives people affected by EB and their immediate families the chance to experience one of Canada’s premier cultural institutions at no charge. Contact Erin Hoyos, Administrative Assistant for DEBRA Canada (ehoyos@debracanada.org), to arrange for your free tickets.

To make a tax deductible contribution, kindly visit: www.rom.on.ca/donatenow and under the “My Gift is Towards” drop-down menu option, please select the “Gopalani Family Fund.” Every $10.00 raised enables one child with special needs to visit the ROM. Thank you for your support!
